La boutique « Scènes de lin » nait d’abord à Marrakech où Anne-Marie Chaoui s’installe en 2000.
12 ans plus tard, son fils aîné Karim Chaoui et son épouse Julie développent la marque familiale en France. Désormais, lins colorés, cuir brodé, fer martelé ou encore bois ciselé ornent alcôves et étales du showroom Scènes de lin Paris.
Garant des traditions artisanales marocaines, l’atelier fait appel aux talents de brodeuses ou encore tisseurs aux techniques ancestrales, qui travaillent à domicile et contribue à faire vivre un vivier de petits artisans au Maroc.

That’s a statement: colour rules ! From the shop window, you can’t help but notice C&C Milano’s display for the Milan Design Week. Novelties and classics, for bedding and upholstery, take new bright colours and fill the home with joy… And of course linen works wonders on these colours, thanks to its exceptionnal dye affinity…
Then you enter the showroom/boutique and notice the little twist in the accessories, such as the cushions, featuring new shapes or innovative fabrics (Maremma plisse is also featured in Radical Linen)…
A closer look at the fabrics will reveal a wide range of innovations, rich textures, moving surfaces, almost three-dimensional fabrics, striking and sensuous. My favorites:
- Oscar : amazing texture, also available with embossed patterns, in 90% Linen 10% Polyamide
- Pierre: an ultra-soft chenille in 100% Linen
- Ernesto: elegant panama in 73%Linen 15% Cotton 12% Polyamide

I could stay for hours discussing decoration and architecture with Emmanuele Castellini, founder of C&C Milano. His passion is as great as his cousin’s: Piero Castellini Baldissera is the designer who renovated Villa Necchi – built in the thirties and whose architect was Piero’s grandfather, Piero Portaluppi.

The « Chers Voisins » (« Dear Neighbours ») installation at the Salone del Mobile in Milan showcases new Maison Martin Margiela furniture produced by Cerruti Baleri.
This year, the Maison created a temporary apartment that blends interior architecture and design in a style inspired by real life, disproportion and trompe-l’oeil.
Interior, day: a white room features « Telo » a disproportionate headboard. The structure seems to shrink and the linen quilted upholstery appears to follow suit.
-Linen, White, Sleep- is a thematic already expressed by Maison Martin Margiela for the Hotel La Maison Champs-Elysées in Paris; and also by CELC Masters of Linen at Radical Linen Stand, Maison et Object last January.

Discipline features the new Paffuta armchair designed by Luca Nichetto.
A mix of fabrics were used, and the most striking one is a multicolor linen, developped by Lemaitre Demeestere with Jos Vanneste dyed yarns, discovered at the Linen Dream Lab Milano.

Décrouvrez l’exposition Material Matters#2 qui contextualise la modernité du Lin Européen et démontre son aptitude à anticiper les évolutions permanentes de notre Art de vivre. Une étape 100% matière dans le parcours OFF de Milan où la Confédération Européenne du Lin et du Chanvre (CELC Masters of Linen) choisit l’artiste plasticienne Aurélie Mathigot pour afficher la pluralité d’un textile séculaire et innovant. Une mise en scène directement inspirée de l’ouvrage de référence « The Linen Book » dédié aux prescripteurs Design et Décoration, lancé à cette occasion.

A 100% material dimension of the « OFF » events of Milan, where the European Confederation of Linen and Hemp (CELC Masters of Linen) has chosen the visual artist Aurélie Mathigot to display the multiple facets of this age-old yet innovative textile. A mise en scène directly inspired by The Linen Book, a reference volume dedicated to Design and Decoration specifiers and officially launched on this occasion.
Black as Coal Dust
In the old days every miner had one of these in his bag – a linen cloth to dry himself off with a special black pattern to hide the smears of coal dust. Typically, this would be a criss-cross grey-black diamond pattern. This miner’s linen cloth can still be found today as a washing-up cloth, but in a blue pattern. We’ve now decided to revive the original grey-black version, which we’ve had specially made for us by a German firm. It has a red striped border to relieve the grey, and is of good quality, firm, hard-wearing half-linen.
