As members of the British Institute of Interiors Designers, CELC’s Susie and Sue joined UK designers and their guests at a reception held at the OCHRE showroom during the recent Clerkenwell Design Week. The annual three day festival celebrates design’s creative richness, social relevance and technical advancement. Home to more than 200 architectural practices and 60 design showrooms, Clerkenwell, an area of East London, provides the backdrop to exhibitions, installations, street entertainment, music events, parties and receptions – a great opportunity for the creative design community to meet.

BIID member OCHRE, is a London based furniture, lighting and accessory design company with its showroom in Clerkenwell and a retail store in New York – the hallmark of OCHRE products is contemporary chic and understated glamour.

The latest collection, Oasis, by Mark Alexander is a range of washed Belgium linens. There is a « livability » and calmness found in the delicate palette and texture in these over-washed lightweight linens of fine stripes, pin stripes and multi stripe designs. Hemp Chair wows at Ventura Lambrate…

Created by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien of Doshi Levien, a London based design office, the hemp chair, Capo designed for Cappellini and shown at the Poetry Happens exhibition in Ventura Lambrate 2011, is the first monobloc chair made from natural fibres. Renewable raw materials, hemp and kenaf, are compressed with a water-based binder to create an eco-friendly, lightweight and strong composite.

The Capo chair exploits a lightweight manufacturing technique used in the automotive sector, where natural fibre and acrylic resin composites are used for door linings and rear shelves.
Doshi Levien work across disciplines and industries, they make their own rules that are based on extracting as much richness as possible out of an idea – clients include Intel, Swarovski, Nokia, Authentics, Moroso and Cappellini.
